THE Baw Baw Shire is implementing new programs and technologies at the Drouin Outdoor Pool to avoid the antisocial behaviour which saw opening hours slashed in February.
The Drouin pool was closed briefly in February before being reopened with a fee, beefed up security and opening hours slashed.
A Baw Baw Shire Council spokesperson told The Warragul Citizen a public address system, improved CCTV and duress alarms for lifeguards are being installed at the pool.
YMCA staff and lifeguards will also receive additional training from police and two experienced older staff members have been recruited to mind the pool.
The spokesperson said the new staff members have combined experience in security and in dealing with “challenging youth”.

Youth were identified as troublemakers at the pool in February.
The improvements come ahead of the council’s Free Swims program recommencing at the start of December.
The program will see free admittance to all the shire’s outdoor pools, which will open on days the temperature is forecast to reach 25°C or above.
