WORKS to repair damaged sections of track on the Walhalla Goldfields Railway are progressing, with repairs to one bridge due to be finished next week.
Volunteers are presently working to replace three defective timber piles on bridge number six – one of three trestle bridges on the line that need piles replaced.

The tourist railway paid for the replacement piles, but the works are part of a larger repair project enabled by $50,000 in state government funding for repairs to the line.

Correction to the story: There were 2 WGR volunteers helping out. The works were carried out by five ‘volunteers’ from Puffing Billy who were paid as contractors. PBR earned a cool $25k + for the job. The replacement piles were given to the WGR many years ago.
