The quake occurred near Moe at 11.56am at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres.

Authorities are yet to receive any reports of damage.

The SES says impacts of the quake may include minor building cracks or damage, and minor damage to roads and bridges.

If a building is damaged, turn off the power, gas and water at the mains and do not re-enter.

Residents should only call 000 if there is a life threatening emergency.

The tremor follows a 5.3 magnitude earthquake south of Trafalgar last month, and a 2.9 magnitude quake earlier this month.
