THE CFA has issued advice for people living in the Neerim and Noojee area about an uncontrolled bushfire which started near Powelltown.

A CFA release said there was no threat to communities at present but smoke may be visible in the area and residents should remain informed about conditions and review their bushfire survival plans.

Towns mentioned in the advice include Nayook, Neerim Junction, Neerim North, Neerim, Neerim South, Neerim East and Noojee.

A full list of towns and up to date information can be found on the CFA website.

Water bombing aircraft and helicopters have been called in to assist fire fighters from the CFA and Department of Environment and Primary Industries.

DEPI crews and trucks will remain at the scene overnight.

A total fire ban is in place across Victoria today.
