COUNCILLORS have voted to appoint the first six representatives to Baw Baw’s new Early Years Advisory Committee.
Four independent members and two councillors were appointed at last week’s council meeting according to the terms of reference adopted the council on 13 March 2013.
The independent members appointed were:
- Debra McNeil
- Genevieve De Santis
- Janet Aumann
- Kelly Alfris
Mikaela Power and Tricia Jones were appointed as council representatives while Aboriginal Elder and Chairperson of the Djillay Lidj Best Start Partnership Linda Mullett was also coopted onto the committee.
At the meeting councillor Deborah Brown said the selections were appropriate.
“We’ve got a very good spread of community members, and we’ve also coopted Linda Mullet, an Aboriginal elder, and I think she has also incorporated The Best Start Partnership,” Cr Brown said.
“It’s exciting and I hope we will, I know we will get a really good outcome form this that will lead us into the future.”
The committee will make recommendations to the council on early childhood policies.
