A CONFIDENTIAL report of a council election candidate abusing a Baw Baw Shire employee last year was leaked, according to CEO Helen Anstis.

In the lead-up to the election, the Warragul & Drouin Gazette reported that a candidate had accosted a council staff member.

Replying to a question on notice at last month’s council meeting, Ms Anstis said a confidential email about the incident was sent to candidates before the report was leaked.

“As the Chief Executive Officer, I sent a confidential email to all candidates regarding an incident,” Ms Anstis said.

“The matter was between myself as the CEO and the candidates.

“Unfortunately, someone, unknown to me, reported the matter to The Gazette and I was put in the unenviable situation of responding to a question put by the journalist.”

Ms Anstis said the incident was “reported pursuant to our internal occupational health and safety reporting processes and handled confidentially.”
