A MAN in his late 30s has been charged after allegedly carrying a realistic imitation firearm while walking south along Seven Mile Road, Trafalgar, yesterday.

A police spokesperson said officers pursued the man who was alleged to have been in a drug or alcohol affected state on foot before catching him on Waterloo Road shortly after 4pm.

The spokesperson said a realistic fake gun was found abandoned on a median strip after the pursuit and stressed the man did not use it toward anyone during the incident.

Officers were not sure if the gun was real or not until after they picked it up.

The man appeared before the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court today and has been remanded to appear again tomorrow.

Witnesses have been asked to contact Sergeant Peter Barry at Warragul Police on 5622 7111, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestoppers.com.au.
