Members of the committee recently presented a cheque for $3,100 to the hospital to assist with equipment purchases for the centre.

The hospital’s oncology unit treats and supports people living with cancer.

Committee vice president Linet McNamara said the fundraising drive was prompted by members being helped by the centre.

“We chose the Oncology Unit for our fundraising drive as some of our members have experienced first-hand the support and care provided by staff to their loved ones,” McNamara said in a media release.

“Our Committee has been fundraising for months with support from a small group of volunteers who made and sold hundreds of relishes, chutneys, and jams, and also held an afternoon high tea fundraiser.”

Geraldine Freriks, acting manager of the oncology unit, said the donation will make a difference.

“The staff and patients were thrilled to meet some of the volunteers and welcome them to see the facility,” Freriks said in a media release.

“This donation is gratefully accepted and will help us to purchase additional equipment to benefit our patients.”
