The man set to become Baw Baw Shire Council’s new Director of Community Assets has withdrawn his application, leaving the position to continue in limbo.

Alex Micheli was expected to take the position on Monday 4 June, taking over from acting director Simon Hill who has filled the position for the past nine months.

A Baw Baw Shire Council spokesperson told The Warragul Citizen Mr Micheli withdrew his application for “personal reasons.”

“The position was offered and accepted in good faith, but circumstances have changed in the past fortnight,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said the council does not know when a new director will be found.

The position was vacated in August last year when previous director Tim Frederico moved to become Director of Compliance and Corporate Services.

Baw Baw Shire CEO Helen Anstis said the council regrets Mr Micheli’s decision.

“While we regret that Mr Micheli has withdrawn his application, we are committed to finding the best possible person for this position,” Ms Anstis said.
