Max Roberts awarded Baw Baw Citizen of the Year 2012, James Hall Young Citizen of the Year

The Baw Baw Shire Citizen and Young Citizen of the year awards were announced and presented in a ceremony on Australia Day, along with the Community Event of the Year award and three Australia Day Medallions.

Willow Grove resident Max Roberts was awarded the title Citizen of the Year for his voluntary work maintaining grounds at the Willow Grove Recreational Ground, Primary School, Tennis Club and Cemetery over the past 20 years.

Marist-Sion College student James Hall took out the Young Citizen of the Year award for his years of service volunteering with the Country Fire Authority, as well as playing for the Drouin Football Club.

Drouin’s Ficifolia Festival was given Baw Baw Community Event of the Year award. This year the festival will run from Wednesday the 8th to Sunday the 12th of February with a Chinese Year of the Dragon theme.

Three Australia Day Medallions were also presented at the ceremony. These went to President of the Baw Baw Writers’ Network, founding member of Off The Leash Theatre, member of the Baw Baw Arts Alliance and member of the Baw Baw Arts and Culture advisory committee Jeannie Haughton, aged care assistant, West Gippsland Hospital Drouin Auxiliary Opportunity Shop volunteer and Adult Day Activity Support Service volunteer Donna Vance, and member of the Trafalgar Public Hall Committee Joanne Porter.
