FORMER BAW BAW Shire Manager of Governance and Compliance Liana Thompson has been appointed as the council’s new Director of Community Care and Strengthening.

Ms Thompson replaces former director Patti Wenn, who quit in July for “personal… and family reasons.”

Baw Baw Shire Council CEO Helen Anstis told The Warragul Citizen when Ms Wenn quit that the position, as well as the still-vacant Director of Community Assets position, will be filled by this month.

The Director of Community Assets position has been vacant for almost a year and interviews are continuing.

Ms Anstis took over some of the Community Care and Strengthening directorship roles while the position was vacant.

Ms Anstis said Ms Thompson has extensive local government experience.

“Liana was the last Mayor at the City of Port Melbourne, the first Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, and a founding member and the inaugural President of the Victorian Governance Association (VLGA),” Ms Anstis said in a media release.

“Liana also has vast experience as a local government officer, working in community development, human resources, as the General Manager City Governance at the City of Ballarat and most recently as the Manager Governance and Compliance here at Baw Baw Shire Council.”

“In addition, she previously ran her own management consultancy speciailising in local government, covering strategic planning, facilitating women’s participation in local government, community engagement and governance.”

“Her experience recently earned her a VLGA lifetime membership to honour her outstanding commitment to the local government sector.”
