The Baw Baw Shire has approved a name for a previously unnamed road in south-east Yarragon.

Now called Gallagher Lane, the road runs between 168 and170 Yarragon South Road.

The road is named after the Gallagher family, which has lived in Yarragon since its foundation.

“There’s no better way to remember a family or landowner in the early days of Yarragon than naming a road after you,” Councillor Bill Harrington said in response to the council’s approval of the name at last week’s council meeting.

The council has been looking to name the road since December last year, sending letters requesting suggestions for the name of the road to the neighbouring property owners. The council received two replies, but neither was accepted.

On February 3rd, another letter was sent to property owners asking if they consider the name “Gallagher” appropriate. No objections were received and it is assumed the three owners agree to the new name.
