A 68-year-old Drouin man has been charged following an alleged sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said Central Gippsland Sexual offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives arrested the man yesterday.

He was interviewed by police and charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 before being bailed.

The man will appear at the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court on 23 October.
