Welcome to the jungle, we’ve got fun and… sniffer dogs.

Victoria Police has announced sniffer dogs will be on-site at this year’s Beyond The Valley music festival at Lardner Park.

Police are hoping the dogs will catch anyone trying to enter the venue with illegal drugs.

“Anyone found in possession of illicit substances will face tough penalties,” inspector Matthew Baynes said in a media release this morning.

“We continue to run these operations at festivals year in and year out, but unfortunately for some, the message just isn’t getting through.

“The sorts of drugs that we’re detecting can cause significant harm to the body. They’re manufactured by criminals who have no regard for the wellbeing of those taking them.”

Police will also be on patrol during the event.

The four-day festival will start tomorrow and run until the start of the new year.

Big-name bands including The Kooks, Tash Sultana, and Pnau are billed to play, and organisers have set a NYE dress-up theme of “safari”.
