Three of five landslip-affected roads to re-open this year

The Baw Baw Shire Council has announced that Yarragon-Leongatha Road, Rogers Road in Trafalgar South and McDonalds Track in Mountain View will be re-opened this month.

In a media release yesterday, Deputy Mayor of the Baw Baw Shire Council Councillor Tony Wolfe said that repairs to the landslip-damaged roads will be completed soon.

“Rogers Road and Yarragon-Leongatha Road, south of McDonalds Track are expected to be open to traffic by the end of December,” Cr Wolfe said.

“The reinstatement works on the most recent landslip at McDonalds Track, Mountain Vieware expected to commence on Monday 5 December and are scheduled for completion by the end of December, with weather conditions permitting.”

Two landslip-affected roads will remain closed into 2012; these are North Canal Roadin Trafalgar East and Rosatos Road in Moe South.

The Baw Baw Shire Council has also begun a tree planting project at Rogers Road with the aim of preventing future land slips.

Cr Wolfe also said that further works on land slips in the area are to be completed early next year.

“Works are also progressing on the landslips one to six along Yarragon-Leongatha Roadwith these works expected to be completed by the end of February 2012, with weather conditions permitting,” Mr Wolfe said.
