TRAFALGAR residents will be encouraged to look for services and products locally as part of the Try Traf First campaign, which was launched by the Trafalgar Chamber of Commerce & Industry last night.

Last year 30 businesses took part in the campaign and organisers hope to attract 50 participants this year.

As part of the campaign, shoppers buying from participating businesses will be given the chance to win a share of $500 of vouchers funded by the chamber.

“They can go into any shop that’s involved and enter as many times as they like,” chamber president Graham Davey told business owners at the launch last night.

“Try Traf First, let’s run with it.”

The winner will be announced in December.

Organisers said the campaign was in response to many people shopping in other towns despite Trafalgar retailers providing almost every product and service they require.

Businesses interested in participating have been encouraged to contact trafalgarchamber@gmail.com.

“If you know someone who might want to be involved, get on to them,” Mr Davey said.
