Upgrades to the Lardners Track level crossing and nearby Drouin-Warragul Road intersection are now underway.

The project is expected to cost $2 million and will see boom gates installed on the crossing and traffic lights with automatic warning signs added to the intersection.

Works are expected to be completed early in the 2012/13 financial year.

Member for the state seat of Narracan Gary Blackwood today said the lights and boom gates will be coordinated to improve efficiency and safety.

“Given the mix of high speed trains and road users, including trucks and local school buses, the boom gates and traffic lights will be coordinated to maximise safety,” Mr Blackwood said.

New traffic islands and revised road markings will also be installed.

Funds for the project come from the state government’s $47 million railway crossing upgrade package, which is also being used to fund the Warragul station precinct.
