Warragul’s Civic Park playground has had a major facelift, and kids and parents alike say they love it.

The site’s $280,000 renewal saw new junior and senior play units installed as well as insect-themed rockers, a wheelchair-friendly carousel, and a spinner bowl.

But there are some unusual additions too: the playground now includes a hammock and, get this, T R A M P O L I N E S!

Importantly to many, the playground’s concrete train survived the makeover and has a slick new livery to show for it.

The Baw Baw Citizen asked enthusiastic young playground user Matisse Elton what she thought of the new equipment.

“It’s good,” she told us, and much better than before.

Mattise’s mum, Jayne Elton, was also happy.

“We love it! It’s much better,” she said.

“We love the trampolines, we love the new swings, and of course the spinny things never go out of fashion.

“The train was here when I was a kid, so I am glad that’s still here too.”

The playground is joined together with accessible pathways throughout the new landscaping, and all play equipment can be seen from a central area.

“It’s no secret the old playground was outdated and had reached the end of its useful life,” Baw Baw mayor Joe Gauci said in a media release.

“The new play space will encourage people to take their children out to play and enjoy the new surrounds.

“During our community consultation for the Civic Park Masterplans, we heard strong support for upgraded tables and seats and we are pleased to be able to deliver more refurbished picnic tables and bench seats for the whole community to use.”

Funding for the renewal came from the council’s capital works program.
