“A service company… hit the gas main and at the moment a fair bit of gas is coming out across the street,” incident controller Danny Mynard told the Warragul & Baw Baw Citizen on the scene.
“We are here to provide protection in case the gas explodes.”
A safety line was set up to keep people away from the area while repairs were carried out, during which the CFA monitored gas levels in the air.
Mr Mynard said fire crews could spray water over gas to help dilute it, reducing the risk of fire.
