Yarragon South man awarded with Australian Fire Service Medal

GEOFFREY Bruce Conway has been awarded with an Australian Fire Service Medal for his 30 years of service to the Country Fire Authority.

Reaching the position of CFA Deputy Chief Officer Emergency Management, Mr Conway has worked to ensure the safety of firefighters and the community.

Order of Australia: Baw Baw’s Order of Australia recipients for 2013.

Mr Conway was the leader of the team which reviewed procedures after the fatal Linton fires of 1998, which lead to improvements in procedures and equipment.

Mr Conway also developed and implemented a real-time performance monitoring system, which other fire services and Victoria Police have since adopted.

Mr Conway’s award acknowledges his outstanding contribution the strategic development of Victorian fire services, as well as other fire services around the country and his expertise have put him in high demand among emergency management bodies around the world.

The medal was awarded as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
