Agora Episode 5: Malcolm Turnbull talks to The Warragul Citizen about broadband

VIDEO BELOW TEXT.

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it’s Shadow Minister for Communications and Broadband Malcolm Turnbull, who flew into Drouin yesterday by helicopter to officially activate the first high-speed internet connection at new housing estate Jackson’s View.

This is not a Government NBN project; the fibre to the home connection was installed by commercial operator OptiComm, and developers claim the project cost half as much as the Government’s NBN would.

Mr Turnbull demonstrated the technology with a Skype conversation to Tasmania, but was interrupted by the call dropping out on several occasions. (See end of video.)

Discussion was focused on national issues, but Mr Turnbull did discuss how the coalition believes private enterprise and competition in broadband can benefit Gippsland.

You can find out what Mr Turnbull said in the video, which includes a summary of what he told his cross-state audience and an interview with The Warragul Citizen.
