Mr Baillieu’s resignation was the second in a string of State Government resignations yesterday, with Member for Frankston Geoff Shaw quitting the Liberal party earlier in the day.
Minister for Regional Cities, Major Projects, Ports and Racing Dr Denis Napthine will take over from Baillieu. Dr Napthine was Victorian Opposition Leader from 1999 to 2002.
Read Mr Blackwood’s statement below:
During four years in Opposition and the two and a bit years in Government I have always supported Ted Baillieu as the Leader of the Parliamentary Liberal Party.
The pre-election commitments that were made for my Electorate prior to the 2010 poll, are being delivered thanks to Ted Baillieu’s support and understanding of the needs of the people of Narracan.
Ted as Premier has worked tirelessly for Victoria. Victoria always came first in any decision he made or action he took.
Sadly Ted has decided to step aside. Denis Napthine has been elected to replace him and he has my full support. Denis is one of the most experienced members of the Victorian Parliament and is held in very high regard right across this State.
