[News short] THE Warragul Business Group will attempt to take on online and Melbourne retailers this Christmas with the signing of over 100 local businesses to a gift card scheme.

Warragul Business Group Executive Officer Dave Cann said in a media release $200 million is lost from the region’s economy each year through locals shopping elsewhere.

“The increase in availability and sales of gift cards by third parties for retailers not based in Warragul is a significant part of this escaping expenditure,” Mr Cann said.

The Shop Warragul gift cards, coving food, services and entertainment, will be launched on November 29 as part of the group’s Sidewalk Festival Sale.

I’m guessing this card is restricted to WBG members only – no-one approached my business (Kenney’s Flowers) about participating.
