Lila, who entered the competition while a student at Trafalgar High School, was chosen from a field of almost 500 entrants for her creative project, which answered questions on the relevance of the Anzac spirit to modern life and the future.

The Premier’s Spirit of Anzac Prize is held annually to select students for an overseas study tour of sites where Australians have served in war, centred on Gallipoli or the Western Front.

Victorian premier Denis Napthine presented the awards at a special reception in Melbourne’s Parliament House earlier this month.

“Lila should feel extremely proud for being selected as one of the recipients of the prize,” Dr Napthine said.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Hugh Delahunty said the trip “will be an important milestone for each of these students and will ensure that the baton of remembrance is passed from generation to generation.”
