Metro wants Gippsland to Melbourne train services terminated

SUBURBAN RAIL OPERATOR Metro says it wants Gippsland V/Line services to and from Melbourne to terminate at Pakenham.

In a proposal to Public Transport Victoria, Victoria’s public transport administration body, Metro is suggesting Gippsland line trains operate only between Pakenham, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.

Under the proposal, Gippsland line passengers wanting to travel to Melbourne would have to catch metropolitan services to and from Pakenham.

LATEST: Government rejects Metro’s Gippsland line proposal.

All V/Line rail services across the state operate to and from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station.

PTV is looking for ways to increase and improve services on the Dandenong line, the most congested in the state, through the Dandenong Rail Capacity Program.

The Dandenong line is part of the Pakenham and Gippsland lines.

The program will seek to overhaul train timetabling over the next two years as part of infrastructure changes to combat rising population and demand in the area.

The Gippsland line regularly fails to meet performance targets; in May only 77.3 per cent of trains to and from Traralgon arrived on time, and just 74.3 per cent on the Bairnsdale line.

But V/Line trains are regularly delayed by Metro services.

I hope that this doesn’t happen. Even though I doubt it will.

They need to really fix the infrastructure for that whole line rather than remove V/Line from Pakky to Melb.

  2. Realist says:

What they need to do is to stop increasing the Metropolitan services to the point that if the Vline train is 3 minutes late to Dandenong, it loses it’s path and becomes 20 minutes late by the time it arrives at Southern Cross. Why are country people continually disadvantaged? How about taking something off suburbia for once.

I can’t believe this is actually a suggestion! You get squished on metro trains as it is, and they want more people on them!? This is one of the most stupidest things I’ve ever heard! V-Line should stay as it is!
