Mount Worth ward countback date announced

THE VICTORIAN Electoral Commission has announced the date of the Mount Worth ward countback.

The countback will take place at the Baw Baw Shire Council Chambers at Civic Place, Warragul at 10.30am on Monday 29 July.

Countbacks involve redistributing the votes of a vacating councillor to unsuccessful candidates from the previous election according to voter preferences.

A previously unsuccessful candidate must receive over 50 per cent of redistributed votes to take the position.

If no candidate receives that quota in the initial redistribution, the candidate with the smallest number of votes has their votes redistributed.

The process is repeated until a candidate achieves over 50 per cent of the redistributed votes.
