LOCALS have banded together to help a young family which lost everything in the house fire on Victoria Street, Warragul, this week.
The old weatherboard house close to the centre of town was completely destroyed in a fire on Tuesday. A CFA spokesperson said a mother and two children were home at the time but were able to escape.

“The mother smelled smoke and saw flames, and then managed to get everyone safely outside,” the spokesperson said in a media release.
“The fire is believed to have begun underneath the home.”
For much of the week the Warragul Newsagency has accepted donations for the family and yesterday a staff member told the Warragul & Baw Baw Citizen the business’ store room is now full of donations.
The staff member said the business was now only accepting money and gift cards to be passed on to the family.

A public Facebook group called Help the Crawford Family has been set up to coordinate the relief effort and local musicians will hold a benefit gig next week.
Organiser Angelo Saridis said the Gippsland music community would be putting on an event at BANK Warragul on Saturday 7 November from 14:00 to 18:00.
“There will be live local bands, sausage sizzle, raffle/silent auction, bandaoke (like karaoke but with a live band) competition and anything else we can fit in to raise some cash,” he said on social media.
“It will be a family friendly event so bring everyone along.”
