Warragul Farmers’ Market celebrated its fourth birthday on Saturday and is showing no signs of slowing down with age.

Market manager Sallie Jones told the Baw Baw Citizen the monthly gathering has gone “from strength to strength” since the first market in 2013.

“The community still comes out in droves and [supports] us,” Ms Jones said.

“We are living in the food bowl and it’s really awesome that we have a great line-up of producers that grow and make amazing produce.

“And for the community to come out and actually support this, month after month, for four years – we’re so appreciative.”

The market has been based in Warragul’s Civic Park for all 48 Saturdays it has operated – summer, winter, spring, and autumn.

“It [has] stayed on original brief, but I think we’ve been able to add more elements to the market to keep it fresh and exciting and for people to keep coming back,” Ms Jones said.

“We have retained a lot of our original stallholders, which is fantastic and that means it’s a good market and they’re making money.”

Next month’s market, to be held on 16 December, will be a great chance for locals to look for some tasty Christmas gifts. Sallie said there will be plum puddings, meat, vegetables, and small hampers.

“[These are] things which you can actually gift up and proudly say to your friends and family ‘here’s a Christmas present which supports local and is delicious.'”
