A WEST Gippsland Healthcare Group spokesperson has said the group placed no pressure on the Thomson Times committee to leave its building in Rawson, contrary to a statement in a council document.

The Times had its application to move into the former Rawson Police Station building, now operated by Baw Baw, approved by councillors earlier this month.

In a list of key issues supporting the Times’ application to use the building published in the Baw Baw Shire Council’s 13 August 2014 meeting agenda, council officers said: “The WGHG have recently informed the Thompson Times committee that they can no longer be accommodated.”

In a statement to the Warragul & Baw Baw Citizen, a WGHG spokesperson said the group was welcome to stay.

“WGHG has not advised the Thomson Times Committee that it can no longer be accommodated and it has in fact been advised that WGHG are willing to continue to support the current arrangements,” the spokesperson said.

“These include rent free access and WGHG covering incidental costs such as utilities and internet access.

“WGHG position is that it will support the desires of the community and Thomson Times to the best of its ability, while being clear about its core role.

“To this end WGHG would support the move to the former Police Station if this is the wish of the Committee, but is certainly placing no pressure on the Committee to find alternate premises.”

A Baw Baw Shire spokesperson told the Warragul & Baw Baw Citizen an apology had been made to the WGHG and the inaccurate information was due to officer error.

high rate of officer error in 2014 at BBSC in my view , across many departments, not sure why, used to be one of the best local governments to deal with

  2. From what I understand, the WGHCG has become progressively “uncooperative” and “unhelpful” to all the community assistance programs that used to be based in the Rawson Medical Centre. The community bus has gone, the telecentre is unworkable due to so many restrictions on hour [hence no one uses it anymore and this provided the excuse for the WGGCG to close it] and the Thomson Times people have most likely made the decision to move pout based on the hassle of dealing with the WGHCG bureaucracy. The Rawson Medical Centre is a shadow of it’s former self…and that been driven by the boffins in Warragul wanting to close it down. “A death by 1,000 cuts” as they say.
