Drouin cyclist a NATIONAL CHAMP after win

Local rider Cyrus Monk is a national road cycling champion after taking out the under 23 category in the Australian National Road Race Championships last weekend.

Monk broke ahead of the pack in the final stages of the 98.2 kilometre race, finishing almost 30 seconds in front of the second placed rider.

He told the Baw Baw Citizen that although he has had his share of success, this is his biggest result to date.

“I felt ecstatic,” Monk said.

“The months of hard work leading into the race had paid off.”

The 21 year old university student will now ride in the Herald Sun Tour in February, after missing out on a place in the Tour Down Under due to a rule change.
