On moving the motion to rename the pavilion at last week’s Baw Baw council meeting, Mount Worth ward councillor Murray Cook reflected on Ms Ryan’s contributions and his own experience as a young student of her’s.

“It’s my pleasure to move this,” he said.

“Molly Ryan is a very long standing member of the club and she put a lot of time and effort into junior tennis. Many people [were helped by her]. I was one of her least successful junior tennis players.

North ward councillor David Balfour noted her contributions to a number of other sporting clubs in the town.

“She did a lot of work,” he said.

“President and secretary of the tennis club [and] has been awarded the Traf Citizen of the Year too.

“The recommendation has been supported by her family.”
